Job Description

Position Purpose:

This position will establish and sustain a results oriented continuous improvement safety program that

will serve to reduce controllable business expenses while simultaneously ensuring that our commitment

to worker safety is on par with our strong commitment to product quality and safety.

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Safety Officer will ensure that safety systems, policies and procedures are in place.

Key Specific Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that safety systems, policies and procedures are in place, understood and followed,
  • Facilitate training, risk management, injury investigations, required inspections, etc.,
  • Serve as point safety representative for NeilMed,
  • Develop and execute safety programs and policies,
  • Coordinate with Managers/Supervisors toward fulfilling regulatory compliance requirements,
  • Develop and track  various safety training programs,
  • Implement and maintain compliance with critical safety training requirements,
  • Establish safe material handling procedures.

Summary of Accountabilities:

The Safety Officer will ensure compliance with local, state and federal workplace safety laws and regulations.

Specific Key Accountabilities:

  • Reduce/sustain NeilMed experience modification factor to or below industry average for its classification,
  • Establish and adhere to a safety training compliance agenda,
  • Produce and present regularly scheduled performance and progress reports for management,
  • Investigate and prepare response to governmental regulatory agency inquiries and requests.

Summary of Authority Granted To This Position:

The Safety Officer will serve as the highest level of authority on the production floor regarding Industrial safety related matters.

Specific Key Areas of This Position’s Authority:

  • The Safety Officer is authorized to override department manager authority in any instance in which an indisputable imminent hazard to the life or health of workers may exist.
  • The Safety Officer will provide department managers with interim corrective actions to be taken for any lesser hazards pending a final decision on permanent corrective actions that are to be taken.
  • The Safety Officer will abide with all NeilMed policies, procedures and protocols without exception.

Measurements of Performance:

The performance of the Safety Officer position will be measured on a performance trend basis that is based specifically on injury frequency rate, training agenda compliance efficiency and the resolutionefficiency of corrective actions that have been identified as the causes or contributing causes of injury accidents.


Skills & Requirements

Qualifications Required of This Position:

  • Bachelors Degree in Safety & health preferred,
  • Minimum 2 to 5 years of work experience in a similar role,
  • Experience in manufacturing, assembly and distribution safety,
  • Strong understanding of OSHA compliance and OSHA recordkeeping and reporting,
  • Strong working knowledge of developing and maintaining safety policies and procedures,
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills,
  • Good presentation skills,
  • Detail oriented,
  • Self motivated,
  • Able to work on a team,
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and independently.
